Sometimes we are dealt quite a poor suit, should we rebid it or not?
Some people are tempted to rebid 1NT with the rationale "my suit is bad, I'm balanced and I have points in the other two suits". In actual fact you need to rebid your diamond suit because it is bad. That sounds counter intuitive - basically the diamond suit will be a big problem in 1NT - you won't be able to get it going very easily at all, you may never make a diamond trick. Whereas in a diamond contract, it will be an excellent asset and the texture is good (J1087 is quality texture, we worry less about high cards and more about those intermediate texture cards).
As opener, basically always rebid your 6 card suit
I say "basically" because a suit headed by the Jack with no texture at all, such as J75432 is a good candidate for a 1NT rebid, in all other circumstances (99% of the time) rebid your suit.
