Entries

Entries have been described as "the lifeblood of bridge". When we truly appreciate the value of an entry, we start asking what its best use is every time we're in a hand. It helps to see high cards not just as tricks but also as entries — that's what lets you time questions like "when do I draw trumps?" If you think of the Ace of trumps as an entry, you'll often know when you need to play it.

Topics like setting up long suits and ruffing in dummy — and countless others — all require entries to execute. Every plan should consider entries closely; one of the most common reasons plans fail is entry mismanagement.
