Is the bid forcing?

Reel 44 of 51

For me the most important rule in competition to hold on to is "Responders first change of suit is forcing" - this is the only bid in competition that should be forcing. Lets look at a few examples and why this makes competition so much better.

Example 1.

Some people would be confused whether the 3 is forcing or not. If we follow the rule that only responder's first change of suit is forcing, then the second change of suit (this one) is not forcing. We can confidently pass and play in our club fit for a good score.

Example 2.

We are able to bid 3 here with the knowledge that it isn't forcing, because, in competition when it comes to change of suits "ONLY responders first bid is forcing".
